The Benefits of Online Counselling: Why Australians Are Choosing Online Counselling in 2025

In today’s fast-paced world, mental health matters more than ever. For Australians seeking a flexible, accessible way to get support, online counselling is revolutionising the way we care for ourselves. Whether you’re in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, a regional area, or a quiet outback town, you can book an online counselling appointment and get started right away.. Curious about why so many Aussies are turning to online counselling in Australia? Here are the top benefits—and how we can help you get started.

1. Convenience That Fits Your Busy Lifestyle

Some days, months or years can be a whirlwind—work, family, trying to keep up with exercise, maintain social connections, and still have some downtime. With online counselling you can skip the commute and connect with us from your lounge, office, or wherever you are. As long as you have a safe, private space to talk, Vanessa can conduct your session via video or phone if you prefer.

2. Accessibility for All Australians, Urban or Remote

Distance shouldn’t stand between you and quality care. Our online therapy sessions reach every corner of Australia—whether you’re in rural Queensland, the Northern Territory, or a bustling city. It’s perfect for those with mobility challenges or anyone who’d rather not travel. With just an internet connection, you’ll have access to the support you need, no matter where you call home.

3. Comfort and Privacy in Your Own Space

Opening up about life’s challenges can feel tough—but it’s easier when you’re comfortable. Not everyone feels comfortable opening up in an in-person appointment, it can feel awkward, scary or overwhelming. With online counselling, you can talk from your own space—grab a cuppa, get comfortable and take that first step in feeling better, in improving your mental health and get support for anything you’re going through. Studies show people feel more at ease at home, which can lead to real breakthroughs. Plus, online counselling offers total privacy—no waiting rooms, running into someone you know coming in or out of your appointment, just discreet, one-on-one support.

4. Tailored Support for Your Unique Journey

Everyone’s story is different—whether it’s anxiety, stress, overwhelm, low mood, struggling with motivation, you deserve care that fits you.

Is Online Counselling Right for You?

If you’re neurodivergent and prefer online communication, or can’t find a local therapist in your area to meet with, or simply prefer the ease of home, Telehealth appointments with me could be your answer. It’s not for everyone, but if you’ve never reached out before, but you think you are ready, I can work with you to assess your goals for counselling, provide you with support and we can begin your journey to feeling better. In your first session you can expect to be asked some general questions about your life, your family and what brought you to counselling. You’ll be able to use the bulk of the time to talk as much or as little as you like, share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. The time is yours to choose what aspects of your life, feelings, emotions or issues you’d  like to talk about. Telehealth sessions are private, and you can rest easy knowing  you will not be judged, criticised or controlled in any way during your counselling journey. It is a safe space for you to vent, be heard, be validated, be understood, and also to get help and education if there are skills you’d like to work on such as improving anxiety, increasing motivation, or simply just understanding yourself better.

Why Choose True Balance Counselling?

I commenced practicing in 2024 and became a counsellor because I could see that many, many people in Australia do need mental health support, they don’t have easy access to services in their town and many people desperately need someone to talk to. As a counsellor I often have clients apologise to me for loading me up with their worries. I am here to reassure you right now, before you even get started that you don’t have to worry about that. No matter what you are going through, no matter whether it is something you think is trivial, or if it is something  very heavy or troubling, I encourage you to reach out and book in a counselling session.

Free Tips for Better Mental Health

To help you manage stress and improve well-being, here are some practical tips you can start today.

  • Practice Mindfulness: Spend 5 minutes daily focusing on your breath to reduce anxiety. Try guided meditations available on YouTube.

  • Set Boundaries: Learn to say no to protect your energy, especially if work or family life feels overwhelming. This can help manage stress levels effectively.

  • Journal Your Thoughts: Write down your feelings nightly to process emotions, which can clarify issues to discuss in online counselling sessions.

  • Stay Active: Incorporate a 10-minute walk, bike ride or swim into your day to boost mood, as physical activity is linked to better mental health outcomes.

  • Connect Socially: Reach out to a friend weekly to combat isolation.

  • Be kind to yourself: We always do the best we can, with what we’ve got. It’s okay if today was a hard day, it’s okay if you aren’t coping. It doesn’t mean you are a failure. Emotions and feelings come in waves, including grief, anxiety, positivity, happiness, sadness. Sometimes it can be helpful to just sit with it a little. Observe what you are feeling, identify the feelings and where you think they came from. Doing so out aloud can be incredibly freeing too, helping you to process and make peace with the things in your life that you cannot control, and move to a place of acceptance.

If you feel ready to talk, book a session with Vanessa, and let’s start untangling what is going on for you and set you up with some strategies tailored to your needs.
